Supporting Our Community!

In partnership with the Backside Learning Center, ETA conducted our first Summer Youth Horsemanship Program. This 6-session program was held at Iroquois Park equestrian center throughout June 2021. Thirteen kids, ages 8-15, attended. Most of the kids had never seen a horse up close, so this was an exciting opportunity for them! Lessons covered horse-related safety, grooming, leading a horse, how to tack a horse, controlling and steering a horse, and riding a horse. The program involved over 20 community volunteers and over half a dozen horses. Thanks to the BLC and everyone involved for making this program a huge success, especially Lisa Hite who was the program manager for ETA! Also thanks to the Davis Program for Peace that funded the program. I'm honestly not sure who had the most fun, the kids or the volunteers!!

The Backside Leaning Center is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that provides services to families who work at Churchill Downs.

100th Anniversary Optimist Parade

Saturday, June 29, 2019 - Equine Trail Advocates was invited to participate in the Optimists International Centennial Walk in downtown Louisville. Before, during and after the walk ETA riders and horses made new friends and gave several children their first chance to meet a horse. A steady stream of tourists experiencing the Bourbon Trail walked by, took photos, petted the horses, asked questions and enjoyed the unexpected site of horses hanging out in front of the Humana Building and the Kentucky Center for the Arts.

The Optimists, founded in Louisville, KY in 1919,  celebrated 100 years of service to youth groups. We salute their good work for children and teens around the world!

 ETA's Very First Event

ETA had a booth at the Jefferson County Mounted Sheriff's Posse trail ride/poker run at Iroquois Park. We raised over $300 for ETA and met a lot of great new people.
